What is Salesforce Lightning

When the big announcement of a new Salesforce platform was made back in Dreamforce 2013, many of the Salesforce aficionados were disappointed. But little did we know that the Salesforce1 platform that was released then, would be the foundation of the new, truly amazing, Salesforce Lightning Platform.

With its rollout out just a few days away, October 17th to be precise, everyone is thrilled. The reimagined platform of Salesforce has had a lot of changes from the classic version. In fact, the user-friendly design has a lot more going, on the features front.

Keeping up with the energy, in this post let’s take a sneak peek into what is Salesforce Lightning and how it is well worth the wait.

What is Salesforce Lightning?

Salesforce Lightning is the reimagined platform of the classic Salesforce. It is smart, easily customizable and available across multiple devices. And just as the name suggests, it is lightning fast and is dedicated to provide sales related intelligence in an innovative way.

Salesforce lightning promises to give you a whole new user experience that will help you save a lot of time and make you more productive. If you haven’t had a glimpse of it yet, then here you go. We’ll wait for you to recover from its jaw-dropping awesomeness.

Within a few days, you will be able to switch into this new platform from your current interface. And the best part, even if you want to keep toggling between both the interfaces, it is possible! So you have the time to get adjusted to the new interface, run a pilot, and all the while use the classic interface.

Now let’s move into the add-ons that comes along with the Salesforce Lightning platform. Salesforce Lightning includes the Lightning experience (the UI), Lightning Design System (for Salesforce devs), and the Lightning App Builder + Lightning components (for any Salesforce user).

Curious much? Let’s dive in and have a closer into these features.

Lightning experience – This is the new UI, which you will instantly fall in love with. With the new Lightning Experience, you can have Salesforce on-the-go, across all your devices. It is intuitively designed to provide a seamless engagement. And unlike the previous version, it can be customized and personalized easily.

You can get started with the basics of Lightning experience, here.

Lightning Design System – It has a collection of design patterns, components and guidelines to create new apps that fits into the lightning platform. It is a pure CSS framework that can be easily included in your development framework, be it Visualforce, Lightning or your local development environment.

If you are a Salesforce developer, then you can start right away by downloading the Design system.

Lightning Components Framework & App Builder – With these upgrades, any Salesforce user can now easily build applications from scratch. The best part is, you don’t need to have any technical prowess to do so. Instead, you can use the simple drag-and-drop library of the easily configurable components of Lightning.
